A Landscape with Dunes and Figures

Philips Wouwerman (Haarlem 1619 - Haarlem 1688). Oil painting on canvas, A Landscape with Dunes and Figures, by Philips Wouverman (1619-1668). In the centre on a dune is a tumble-down shelter, partly supported by two trees; to the right a cart, near which is a dog and two cows, while part of a thatched cottage is seen further right. A path runs along the foot of the dune and in the centre a horseman has halted; a dog jumps up at him, and to the left a foot traveller kneels to attend to a second dog; left, two figures at a bend in the path, and in the distance a river or lake with hills beyond; a stormy day.
