Switzerland Gottlieb Duttweiler (b/w photo)

The projectiles of National Councillor Gottlieb Duttweiler pierce two windows of the Bundeshaus in Bern on 8 October 1948. With his sensational action, the Migros founder protests against the delay of his attempts to create preparations for national defense. In March 1948, Duttweiler had submitted a motion to the Parliament for the third time and again in vain. Duttweiler's furious attack corresponded to the popular opposition policy of the “National Ring of Independents” founded in 1935. The program of the Landesring at that time was dominated by economic issues: Export promotion, ensuring independent agriculture and creating the right to work.
