Image description

Prozession Vor Dem Dom. Translation: Procession in front of the Cathedral. The solemn processions of the Catholic clergy and the people around the church, named after the Latin word procedere (i.e. moving forward), have been known since the 4th century. The procession leaves the cathedral, led by the clergy with flags, crosses and the sacrament, which it transforms before finally returning to the main portal. Illustration for Deutsche Kulturbilder, 1400-1900 (Cigaretten-Bilderdienst Hamburg-Bahrenfeld, 1934).
