Alchimist. Unter Alchimie (einem dilettantischen Vorlaufer der Chemie) verstand man bis ins 19 Jahrh die vermeintliche Kunst, unedle Metalle in Gold und Silber zu verwandeln. Man glaubte es mit Hilfe eines besonderen, Stein der Weisen genannten Stoffes zu erreichen, dessen Herstellung die Hauptaufgabe des Alchimisten war. Seine Werkstatt hatte stets ein unheimlich dusteres Aussehen. Translation: Alchemist.
