Rāma consoles him and in full council instructs VibhÄ«á¹£aá¹‡a and the remaining demons to perform Rāvaṇa's funeral rites, the wood for which is gathered by monkeys and demons. He tells Lakṣmaṇa to consecrate VibhÄ«á¹£aá¹‡a king of Laṅkā. Rāvaṇa's body is prepared for cremation by his lamenting wives, headed by his chief wife MandodarÄ«. With eloquent gestures the women express their grief and MandodarÄ« unbraids her hair in the traditional gesture of the bereaved wife.
