Tom Scott (1854-1927) Lone St Mary's, 1900 Watercolour on paper Height 37.4 x Width 54.7 cm TWCMS : G1716
The picture title is a quotation from Sir Walter Scott's poem Marmion (1808) about St Mary's Loch in the Scottish Borders. The writer tells how the solitude creates a sense of pleasurable melancholy. Scottish artist Tom Scott has expressed this with his colour combinations of pink clouds, blue shadows, and golden moorland. The moon and highlights on the water were created just from bare paper.
