Rashid al-Din (1247-1318); 'History of the World'; attributed to the Alp Arslan Master; The Seljuq Sultan Muhammad ibn Malikshah ruled in Baghdad from 1105-18; Here he sits in the centre of the image on a golden cushion upon a red lacquer throne. His crown is of the Seljuq style and he has a long pigtail; rights stands a man holding a hawk; on the left three men, one wears a turban and kneels to the sultan; the other two wear Mongol hats and robes with very long sleeves hiding the hands which is a custom of Chinese origin.
