PRESIDENT OF THE EU COMISSION ROMANO PRODI SALUTES TO YUGOSLAV PRESIDENT VOJISLAV KOSTUNICA IN BELGRADE. President of the European Commission Romano Prodi (L) salutes to Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica (R) after signing an agreement on investment protection in Belgrade November 25, 2000. The European Union agreed on Friday to allocate 839 million euros ($705 million) to the western Balkans in 2001, the first tranche of a six-year, 4.65 billion euro programme aimed at stabilising the region. The western Balkans comprises Croatia, Macedonia, Bosnia, Albania and rump Yugoslavia, which includes Serbia and tiny Montenegro. Serbia's Kosovo province, now under U.N. administration, is also covered by the western Balkan budget.
