Rāvaṇa looses a great spear at VibhÄ«á¹£aá¹‡a, which Lakṣmaṇa destroys, but he in turn falls victim to another of Rāvaṇa's spears, which pierces his chest and goes into the earth. Monkeys unsuccessfully try to pull it out, which Rāma does, offstage here. Rāma swears a solemn oath that this day Rāvaṇa will perish, and his hail of fearsome arrows then drives the terrified Rāvaṇa off the field. Rāma returns to the stricken Lakṣmaṇa and, after lamenting over the fallen hero, he and Suá¹£eá¹‡a discuss his condition. They decide to send Hanumān to the Himalayas once more. Divine beings rain flowers on the heroes.
