David Wilder, a Jewish father of seven, and a settler living in the enclave of Bet Hadassah in the West Bank city of Hebron, points to the sand bags which fill a window in his living room October 25, 2000. Some 70 Jewish settler families live in Hebron and all who have windows facing the Palestinian-controlled sector of the city have reinforced their homes with sand bags to provide protection against the gun battles which have raged for many nights during the current wave of violent unrest between Palestinians and Israeli soldiers. Wilder says during the day things are "normal" but at night there are many changes. JWH
