The explosion of the USS Intrepid, a floating bomb (also call a fireboat) assigned to enter Tripoli Harbor and explode near the enemy's fleet. However, when the Intrepid was boarded by 100 Tripolian sailors, Captain Richard Somers, his crew of 2 officers, and 10 sailors, exploded the magazine of their fire ship 'Intrepid', rather than be captured. They were part of the squadron led by Commodore Edward Preble, May 4, 1804
