California, United States of America Two construction workers watch the construction site of the All American Canal on the New River west of Calexico, the so-called New River siphon. The channel is controlled at this point through a gorge of the New River. It is about 80 miles long and runs from the Colorado River to the New River. The channel directs water from the Colorado River in the valley of the Imperial Valley, where it is used for water supply and irrigation. The All American Canal is part of the irrigation system of the Hoover Dam (until 1947 Boulder Dam) and was built in the years 1934-40. The client was the United States Bureau of Reclamation (USBR).
