KFOR peacekeepers in Kosovo yesterday tested a new bridge meant to link ethnic Albanians over a river splitting Kosovska Mitrovica, amid continued sporadic ethnic violence across the province. Stretching over the Ibar River, the footbridge will connect the ethnic Albanian part of the city to three high-rise buildings on the northern, Serb-dominated section. Hundreds of Kosovo Albanians who fled their homes on the Serb side of this tinderbox northern city prepared to return under a heavy security presence. IM/ME
