Image description

Sunbathers walk past large rocks, all that remains of a large section of the Copacabana beach shoreline, on October 10 in Rio de Janeiro. Waves whipped up by the El Nino weather phenomenon are tearing away at the famous beach, leaving almost nothing but bare rocks in many areas. All of Rio's beaches have shrunk 30 to 50 meters in width, but Copacabana has born the brunt of the largest waves, eating away around 100,000 cubic meters of sand. BRAZIL BEACHES
