FARSARI, A & CO.: Commercial Photographers, Yokohama. The most prolific of all the 19th century firms it specialized in albums of "views and types of Japan". It is my opinion that Farsari produces nine out of ten of the 19th century photographs that have come onto the market in the 1947-1988 period. For some years I wondered why most Japanese 19th century photographs seen were Farsari & Co. work - then I discovered A. Farsari & Co. had its offices next to Thos. Cook & Son in Yokohama.
