Sea Adventure: The slaver "Boladora" (colour litho)

The slaver "Boladora." When the British Navy was putting down the slave trade in the eighteen-twenties, many slavers were really powerful pirates, and were quite ready to fight. The captain of the famous slaver Boladora, mounting 4 big guns and carrying over 60 men, vowed that he would blow the little naval schooner Pickle out of the water and hang her commanding officer, Lieutenant J B B M'Hardy, who had been very active against the slavers. The Pickle carried only 3 small guns, and her crew consisted of 30 men and 6 boys, yet she fought the big slave-ship furiously for an hour and a half, and finally despite heavy losses, rid the seas of one of the greatest scoundrels of the day.
