Image description: Painting. John Closterman. Portrait of seven of the children of Charles Seymour, 6th Duke of Somerset. All full length, standing on a flight of steps. Algernon (b.1684) left standing full length his left foot on a step. Next a baby seated supported by the eldest girl who is seated full length, full face, in blue and white, roses in her hand. Next, seated on the step a child of four or so, and above him a little girl, advancing to right front. Below her two children of two or three years, seated on the steps. Oil on canvas, in a carved wood frame. 61 3/4ins. by 85 3/4ins. Provenance: 1847 Syon House Inventory as by Riley.
