A hand-made casket from Ghana, used in the African Burial Ground Memorial Project, which has been transported from Howard University, Washington, D.C. where it was studied, is blessed by clergy on the way to New York on October 3, 2003 from Liberty State Park in Jersey City, New Jersey. The reburial of the remains of hundreds of African-American slaves in New York put little to rest aside from some bones from America's darkest hour, say many who took part in the ceremonies.
