The Foundation of an Empire, 1336. In 1325 the Muhammadans destroyed the Kakatiya capital at Warangal in the Deccan, whence fled two brothers, Hukka and Bukka (Harihara), to Anegundi, which in its turn fell in 1334. In 1336 the brothers founded there and successively ruled the last Hindu Empire in India, known as that of Vijayanagar from the splendid capital they built. It was the great city of Bisnaga to the Portuguese, and of Bijanagar to the earlier English. Its remains are now the ruins of Hampe.
