A young woman from the Dani tribe in Indonesia's Papua province shows off a mixture of pig oil and ash that she coats on herself, partly to stay warm but which is also a tradition in her culture, August 24, 2003. The girl, from a village near the highland town of Wamena, is among some who prefer the traditional way of life in the remote and sometimes bitterly cold climate. Modernisation, brought to the region by Christian missionaries and the Indonesian government, has brought the modern world to many tribes in Papua such as the Dani.
