Giovanni Giacomo de Rossi (1627 - 1691) (printer) Philippe Thomassin (1562-1622) (Publisher) Monumental engraving of Michelangelo’s Last Judgment fresco, printed from ten plates. It was originally engraved in 1562 by the French printmaker Nicolas Beatrizet, a resident of Rome who specialized in the reproduction of Italian paintings and ancient views. The highly prized plates were reused by several subsequent printers, including the engraver and publisher Philippe Thomassin in 1620, whose signature appears at the bottom and replaces an earlier signature which had been scraped away. ?
