Triumphal depiction of Lionel Wilmot Brabazon Rees from the British Army Royal Flying Corps 32nd Squadron in a DH2 plane single-handedly attacking a squadron of planes from the Imperial German Army Air Service, for which he was awarded the Victoria Cross. The planes fly just above the clouds, and a bright glow from the sun blazes out across the sky from the left of the composition.
